Carla Rivera-Cruz, Governing Board Member

Carla’s passion for education can be summed up with a quote from former Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, “I believe that education is the civil rights issue of our generation. And if you care about promoting opportunity and reducing inequality, the classroom is the place to start.”

Carla got her start in education as a substitute teacher and has since gained experience as a full-time teacher, instructional coach, and provider of professional development. She has taught middle school Spanish and high school Social Entrepreneurship. Through her work she has supported all content areas and grade levels. She received her BS in Psychology from the University of Florida and her MS in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Central Florida. She is also a proud alumna of Teach For America and was certified through The New Teacher Project.
